Understanding Your Business Accounts Shouldn't Require a Finance Degree
Embertide runs structured, unhurried workshops for mid-career adults who want to read management accounts with confidence and hold better conversations with their accountants.
Three Stations, One Direction
Each programme is designed around a specific stage of finance literacy — from vocabulary to reading accounts to running a full 12-week curriculum alongside your existing commitments.
Small-Enterprise Vocabulary Workshop
Covers the terms and concepts found in management accounts and common ratios discussed in publicly available materials. Suited to anyone who sees financial reports but struggles with what they actually mean.
- Vocabulary of small-enterprise finance
- Common ratios in context
- How Malaysian enterprises organise record-keeping
- Educational only — not accounting advice
Reading Management Accounts Programme
Works through sample management accounts and small-business statements across four evening sessions — what each section holds, how the documents connect, and what to bring to your next accountant meeting.
- Publicly available sample accounts
- Document flow and structure
- Printed sample reader included
- Conversation frameworks for your accountant
The Mid-Career Operator Cohort
A full 12-week curriculum built for adults managing side projects or small businesses alongside other commitments. Covers record-keeping habits, regulatory orientation, and accountant conversation frameworks.
- Three live sessions + peer forum
- Printed reader & closing workbook
- Record-keeping habits curriculum
- Orientation to relevant regulatory bodies
A Quiet, Competent Workplace — Not a Sales Room
Purely Educational
Every session is structured around publicly available information. No regulated advice, no product sales — just clear, honest content you can take to your own licensed professionals.
Built for Mid-Career Adults
The pace and format assume you have commitments. Sessions run in the evenings or as full-day immersions — not on a student schedule.
Malaysian Context Throughout
All examples, sample documents, and regulatory references are drawn from the Malaysian small-enterprise environment — SSM, LHDN, and the standard formats your own accountant uses.
Printed Materials Included
Participants in longer programmes receive printed readers and workbooks — physical references you can mark up, revisit, and bring to accountant meetings.
Small Group Format
Cohort sizes are kept deliberately small. Questions that would be awkward in a lecture are routine in our sessions — because everyone in the room has similar gaps.
Practical Conversation Frameworks
You leave knowing what to ask your accountant, what terms to recognise, and what documents to request — not just what a P&L is in theory.
Places Fill Quickly — Cohort Sizes Are Kept Small Deliberately
If you're running a side project or a small business and find yourself nodding along without fully understanding the accounts in front of you, that's exactly the gap Embertide was built to address.
Things People Ask Before Enrolling
Do I need any prior accounting background to join?
No prior knowledge is assumed or required. The vocabulary workshop is specifically designed for people who encounter financial terms regularly but have never had them explained in plain language. The longer programmes build from that same starting point.
Is this the same as getting accounting or financial advice?
No. All Embertide programmes are purely educational. We work through publicly available documents and general concepts. For anything specific to your business — tax treatment, auditing, financial planning — you'll need a licensed professional, and our programmes will help you have more informed conversations with them.
Where do the sessions take place?
In-person sessions run at our studio in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. The 12-week cohort includes three in-person live sessions; the remaining cohort interactions take place through the peer discussion forum.
What's included in the price?
The one-day vocabulary workshop includes all session materials. The four-session programme includes a printed sample reader. The 12-week cohort includes a printed curriculum reader, a closing workbook, three live sessions, and access to the peer discussion forum throughout the programme.
How many people are in each cohort?
Cohort numbers are deliberately limited to keep sessions useful. We don't publish exact caps, but if you have seen a programme listed, it still has spaces. We update availability when a cohort is full.
Can my business partner or co-owner join with me?
Yes — each person enrolls separately, but attending alongside a co-owner often makes the session content easier to put into practice immediately. Mention this when you enquire and we'll do our best to place you in the same cohort.
What happens to the information I submit in the enquiry form?
Enquiry details are used only to respond to your request and manage programme enrolment. We do not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for full details.
